The other day I went to a business meeting. You know the kind where you meet business owners and you hand out your cards and network.

And there’s always that one question after I hand them my business card:  “Hmmm, Priority Errands. That’s interesting. So, what exactly do you do?”

The first answer that always pops into my mind is:  “A little bit of everything. I’m a ‘Handy-Woman’ for unpleasant tasks by offering you an extra pair of hands.”

When I got home I started thinking about that phrase.  Is that what I REALLY do?  Is that my business focus?

In a way, yes, it is what I do.  I run errands for people that don’t have time to do them.  I take care of tasks that people don’t want to do (like laundry, waiting in line for stamps or taking out the garbage!).

But, what do I PROVIDE for my clients?  What changes have I made in their life?

Often you have many home & work responsibilities that overlap. You are probably working longer hours & are asked to do a variety of jobs that maybe you have never done before.  Then there’s that personal to-do list that needs to get done after you’ve put in a full day of work.

How do you feel about those responsibilities?  Frustrated?  Alone?  Overworked?  Overwhelmed?   Sometimes, thinking about all we HAVE to do, makes us not what to do any of it at all.  What can you do?

How about turning to someone to help you out?  A professional?  Because you will get tasks done quickly without a lot of hassle.  You will have the ability to get more accomplished in a shorter amount of time.  You will MULTIPLY yourself without stress.  You will get rid of those jobs that you just don’t like doing.

How does that make you feel, when you get help from someone you trust?  Relieved? Relaxed?  Peaceful? Excited? Energized?

One of my clients once told me:  “Cheryl, you have no idea what a difference you have made on my family’s life.  We don’t argue anymore about chores not getting done.  They are finished when we get home from work and we are finally able to have dinner together, peacefully!”

Bingo!! That’s what Priority Errands is really all about: Giving busy families more peaceful time together.  Being the “key”  to reclaiming a personal/professional balance.  All in all that is my Life’s Purpose — my Focus.

    Hi Cheryl,
I couldn’t agree more with you on why we do what we do. It is so gratifying when your clients tell you how much the like what you do for them. Providing that kind of value to someone’s life is the ultimate satisfaction.

  • From a marketing viewpoint, your positioning statement is within your blog post, “I make a difference in People’s lives.” You say that and the typical response will be, “tell me more,” giving you implicit permission to talk about your benefits to an interested prospect. I loved your blog post and it made me think as well so thank you. Keep up the good concierging!

  • Thank you so much Al for making those fantastic comments! It is extremely rewarding and gratifying to know that even accomplishing the smallest of tasks brings a family, a business owner or an individual peace of mind. As I work this year to take a new angle on my business, I will keep your wise advice in mind!
